Iowa DEI Reverse Career Fairs

The February 2017 DEI Business Engagement Community of Practice allowed DEI Grantees to hear from Diane Hernandez, Disability Resource Coordinator with the Iowa Round VI DEI Project, along with Shannon Myers, M.S., CRC, Employment Specialist, Iowa Department for the Blind and Michelle Krefft, MS., Resource Manager - Business Services, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services.

Iowa shared information on their Reverse Career Fairs that they have held as part of their Business Engagement work on behalf of job seekers with disabilities. Reverse Career Fairs are an opportunity for job seekers to develop materials, displays and presentations for booths at the fair. Then, it is the employers who move between the booths to learn about the strengths and skills of the job candidates.

Our facilitators for this Community of Practice are Nikki Powis and Miranda Kennedy with the NDI-DEI Technical Assistance Team.

DEI Grantees and DRCs will come away from the CoP with the following:
  • Information related to the benefits of the Reverse Career Fairs and the pre job fair workshops
  • Strategies for establishing and conducting Reverse Career Fairs as part of DEI work
  • An opportunity for discussion around incorporating Reverse Career Fairs into your DEI Project's work
In addition, Iowa shared a guide on how to organize Reverse Career Fairs.
